Notice to Parents 11 of 2017

26 October 2017

Dear SPS family

Greetings! The first three terms are now behind us. The year 2017 has been a very busy year. As we approach the end of the year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents, members of the Governing Body and Staff of Scottburgh Primary School, for their support, dedication and commitment given both to the child and the school. We are living in an age where the world is shrinking and we have to learn fast to keep abreast with the latest inventions and advancements taking place around us.

As we head into the home stretch for the 2017 academic year, allow me to update you on the progress of our school as well as a few reminders.

Staffing: We welcome Mrs N.Singh, who was appointed by the department on 9 October 2017. We also welcome Miss A. Mzindle as an Intern HR student, who will be with us for eighteen months.

School fees: The school books closes on 31 October 2017 and I am urging all parents to please settle your accounts by this date. Parents, who do not fulfil their school fee obligation by this date, will be notified about the follow up process of recovering the school fees owing. I would like to stress that school fees is the driving factor to sustaining a good, quality education for your child and I would like to sincerely thank all my parents who have kept to their commitment to pay their school fees.

Mathletics and Reading Eggs: After consultation with staff and feedback from parents, Mathletics and Reading Eggs will continue in 2018 for Grade 2 to 7 only ( Grade 7’s will not do Reading Eggs, as we have found an alternative for them). We are awaiting the updated cost from the service provider for 2018.

Tablets: After consultation with staff and parent survey forms, we have decided that in 2018, tablets will be introduced only to Grade 2 to 7. From 2019 onwards, tablets will be introduced only to Grades 3 to 7. Further information will be communicated shortly.

Super Fun Day: This initiative was introduced by the Principal to reward our children for all their efforts in the year. This event will take place on Friday 17 November from 9am to 2pm. Parents and staff will be given an opportunity to experience some fun on these rides/games from 2pm to 3pm. This day promises to be lots of fun. We have upgraded our slides/games from last year and the cost this year is R100 per learner. Please send your monies to school.

FP Concert DVD: These are available to order at a cost of R100 each. Please send your monies to school.

Learner Photographs: The learner photographs (individual, class, sibling, sport and group) are available on a CD at a cost of R50 per learner.  Last day for photo money will be Friday, 3 November 2017.

AGM and Budget Meeting: A reminder that this event takes place on Thursday, 2 November 2017 at 5:30pm. I encourage as many parents to attend. There is NO quorum needed for this meeting.

Coffee Afternoon with the Principal: I would like to extend my thank you to all my parents who attended this function and for your positive comments and suggestions. It has proven to be a perfect platform for our parents to be part of this incredible journey with our school.

School bags (new): We have ordered a few extra bags. Please contact the school, should you wish to purchase one. It will be on a “first come, first serve basis”.

School Anoraks (new): This item will be sold at school. The cost is between R200-R230, depending on size. Sample sizes have arrived and you may come in to pay and order. There will be just one order this year, which will be done on 3 November 2017.

Thrift Shop: The school would like to open a thrift shop next year. The idea is to assist some of our learners with good, second-hand school uniforms. I humbly appeal to my parents to kindly donate any unused school uniform. This can be done as early as this year.

Taking Holiday during Term: I have noticed an increase in the number of learners absent from school due to families taking extended holidays or long weekends. Spending time with family is both valuable and rewarding and whilst holidays are a great way to ensure that this happens, it causes a great deal of interruption to your child’s learning when this time is taken during the school term. I would like to encourage all our families to schedule this important family time together, during the school holidays. If it is unavoidable that you take time away during the school term, please give your child’s teacher a few weeks’ notice so that they can prepare work for your child whilst your child is away.

Final Exams: I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our learners all the best in their Final Examination, 2017. I am sure that their preparation for the examination will yield rewarding results.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

S. Naidoo
