SCHOOL SAFETY AND SECURITY PROCEDURES
EFFECTIVE MONDAY – 20 FEBRUARY 2017
Please take note of the following learner safety and security measures that the school has changed / put into place. Whilst some of the measures might inconvenience some parents / learners, it is done in the best interest, for the safety of ALL our learners at our school. I would therefore appreciate your understanding and support. Some of these measures are put into place due to the advice given by the Child Protection Unit of the Scottburgh SAPS.
A. MORNING ENTRY (GATES 1 AND 3)
It has been observed that some learners are being dropped off at school, unsupervised, as early as 06h15. This has serious implications for our children’s safety. We do understand the challenges that some of our parents have with regards to transport and their work commitments but no challenge should supersede the safety of your / our children. There are 3 learner gates which are clearly marked:
- Gate 1 – Allen Street
- Gate 2 – Corner of Allen / Galway
- Gate 3 – Galway Street
The following measures are put into place for the early morning drop off. Whilst we take cognisance of the fact that staff officially report to school at 07h30, our dedicated staff have volunteered to come in to serve duty at 07h00 to assist some of our parents who have a challenge in the morning. It must be therefore stressed that only Gate 1 will be opened by the teacher on duty from 07h00 to 07h15 for learners to enter and wait for the main bell. Parents are to refrain from dropping their children before 07h00. Should you have a challenge please make arrangements with the nearby Pre-Schools. Gate 3 will open at 07h15, Gate 2 will remain locked. Both Gates 1 and 3 will remain open until 07h45. No parent is allowed to enter the school through the learner gates. Parents wishing to meet teachers or office staff must enter through the Main Gate.
B. 12:30 – DISMISSAL – EXIT – GATE 1
Gate 1 will only be opened by the teacher on duty to allow the learners, who are not doing extra murals, to exit. Gate 1 will then be closed at 12h40. NO PARENT is allowed to enter through this gate. Should you wish to watch your child doing extra murals, please enter through the Main Gate. You will not be required to fill a form. Please inform the guard that you are a parent of the school. We will identify your entrance via the front office.
C. 14h00 – DISMISSAL – EXIT – GATE 1
Grade 1 and 2 learners who remain for extra murals will be dismissed at 14h00 through Gate 1 by the teacher on duty. This gate will then close at 14h05. Any learner, who is not picked up at this time, will be taken up to the front office. NO PARENT is allowed to enter the school through this gate. Parents wishing to meet the teacher or office staff must enter through the Main Gate.
D. 14h05 – DISMISSAL – EXIT GATES 1 and 3
Grade 3 to 7 learners who are not staying for extra murals will exit through Gates 1 and 3.
Gate 1 will close at 14h15 and Gate 3 at 14h30. NO PARENT is allowed to enter the school through these gates. Any learner, who is not picked up at this time, will be taken up to the front office.
E. 15h15 – DISMISSAL – EXIT – GATE 3
This gate will only open at 15h15. All Grade 3 to 7 learners who remained for extra murals will exit through Gate 3. This gate will close at 15h25. Any learner, who is not picked up at this time, will be taken up to the front office.
F. 16h00 – DISMISSAL – EXIT – MAIN GATE
Learners remaining to do special extra murals will exit through the Main Gate.
G. Kip McGrath, Ballet, Soccer School – All learners attending these programmes will enter and exit through the Main Gate.
H. FRIDAY AFTERNOONS – 13h00 – DISMISSAL (GATES 1, 2 AND 3)
All 3 gates will be opened at 13h00 to allow our learners to exit. Parents are not permitted to enter through these gates to pick up your child. Your child will be escorted to these gates. These gates will close at 13h15. Any learner, who is not picked up at this time, will be taken up to the front office.
I. For all future school functions and events, entry / exit information will be communicated to parents prior to the function or event.
J. Please note that it is imperative that parents / lift clubs pick up the children on time. Far too often, we find our learners stranded for transport, and this is a serious safety concern. All learners who are not picked up on time will be escorted to the front office for dismissal. Should we find that certain learners are continuously being picked up late, we will consult with the parent to reach an amicable arrangement.
K. SCOTTBURGH HIGH SCHOOL SECURITY INFORMATION
I was informed by S.H.S, that no parent, as from Monday 20/02/2017, will be allowed into the school. Parents and learners who are involved in early morning swimming and late afternoon swimming / water polo must park on Allen Street and walk through the pedestrian gate of the High School.
We have our children’s best interest at heart and hope that we receive your full support and co-operation.
